The Saint Reserva Rioja 2008
Review by Eric Tansey, CSW
This wine hails from the famous region of Rioja Spain where the Tempranillo grape is considered to be the king. The Tempranillo grape has really started to find its identity, due to a more modern take on the wine making process. The wine is made with longer fermentation periods and aged in American and French oak barrels, creating wines with more body and subtle oak flavors. If you like Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, or Syrah than you must give Tempranillo a go!
Dark cherry and ripe strawberry, with subtle prune undertones. The tastes of chalk and earth blended with the ripe fruits, give this wine layers that keep evolving. Balanced acidity and velvety tannins, give the wine structure and backbone. Pair with steak, venison, burgers, or simply on the porch with some cigars. I give this wine 92 points. Cheers!
