Reunion Malbec 2012
Review by Eric Tansey, CSW
This is a family owned, sustainably farmed single vineyard estate in the Mendoza region of Argentina. The estate is run by Raul Joffre and his four daughters. The winemaker, Mariano Cignoli, takes a hands-off, minimalistic approach to the winemaking process, leaving the grapes to speak for themselves. This means that the farming must be superb and the grapes must be treated with the utmost care during harvest. There are no chemicals used in the fields and the grapes are all hand harvested to insure that the Malbec grapes maintain their purity and character through the entire winemaking process.
Taste Characteristics
Dark aromas of strawberry and dried prune. On the front of the palate there is a taste of red berries, plum, and cocoa. The mid palate is dusty and fruity as the medium tannins begin to line the sides of the mouth. The medium acidity gives structure and backbone to this wine, making it a perfect pairing for many foods. Pair with grilled meats and veggies, burgers, soft mild cheeses, and of course, steak. Cheers!
