Frisk Prickly Riesling
Review by Eric Tansey, CSW
Riesling is one of the most versatile grapes in the world. It can be made dry or sweet, sparkling or still. It can be aged or served young, with food or without, and is grown all over the world, with tastes that vary from region to region. Riesling is also the most ignored food pairing grape out there. From spicy Asian cuisine and sushi, to chicken wings and stinky cheese, Riesling reigns supreme.
This medium-dry Riesling from Victoria, Australia, is a game changer at its price point. This is a wine that is simple, but elegant, fun by itself, yet serious when paired with food. This wine has aromas of lemon-lime with a little “flower shop” aromas in the mix. On the palate the wine becomes alive, it is zippy and bumping with characteristics of lime zest, sour green apple, and a touch of minerality to finish it all off. Pair with Mandarin Chicken, sushi, spicy Asian cuisine, wings, salads, or stinky blue cheese. Cheers!
